Simons Public Humanities Fellowship
Pianist/Composer, Randy Klein has been awarded the Simons Public Humanities Fellowship at the Hall Center for the Humanities at the University of Kansas. The fellowship takes place during the 2011-2012 academic year.
As the Simons Fellow, Randy Klein will formulate two new works in collaboration with the jazz and film departments of the University of Kansas. Also planned for the fellowship period are: a performance of For My People – The Margaret Walker Song Cycle and; a performance of Two Duos, his recording duet project. In addition, Randy Klein will also conduct music clinics and master classes. The specific dates of the fellowship are to be announced.

The Furious Flower Poetry Center presented “For My People – The Margaret Walker Song Cycle” on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts in Harrisonburg, VA, at 8:00 pm. The concert debuted the composition based on Margaret Walker’s iconic poem “For My People” by composer/pianist Randy Klein and will feature soloist Aurelia Williams and the James Madison University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Patrick Walders. The concert was part of the events of the opening season of the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts, www.jmu.edu/JMUarts.
